Since studying music at both Newcastle and Edinburgh Universities, Robin has been a prolific composer/writer with a particular interest in songwriting, musical theatre and community music-making. His compositions have been performed by professionals theatre casts, community choirs and theatre groups, and over 150 schools across the UK via the work of Charades Theatre Company. He has also written for and toured with a number of bands and contemporary artists, including folk/rock band The Simple Touch and folk/pop band Jules and the Blue Garnets.
THE SELL-OUT EDINBURGH FRINGE MUSICAL
The Mould that Changed the World is a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe musical theatre production about the life of Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming. Written by Robin in collaboration with long-time writing partner James Ross, the show has been developed in partnership with infectious diseases consultant, Dr Meghan Perry. Acting as a national public engagement project about the public health threat of antibiotic resistance, has been chiefly funded by top UK antibiotics charity, the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC).
The première production of The Mould achieved a sell-out three-week run of performances at the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe starring a cast featuring 8 professional actors and a chorus of volunteer scientists and healthcare professionals from the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian. Achieving national press coverage, multiple positive reviews and award nominations, the show transferred to London where it ran a three-show residency, again selling-out.
Sophie and Friends is a safe and welcoming online space that offers compassion, creativity and emotional literacy skills for children aged 3-7. The show features mindfulness, movement and creative exercises and a host of songs to help children learn self-worth, self-awareness and self-trust in a fun yet soothing way. Robin has been part of the creative team for season one, composing the music and songs for the series, providing piano accompaniment during filming and piano underscore during post-production.
